20 weeks of roadworks to start at one of Derby’s busiest roundabouts this week

Up to 20 weeks of roadworks will start at one of Derby’s busiest roundabouts this week.

Derby City Council will be replacing the traffic lights at Pentagon Island, with the intention to have the new smart, low voltage LED traffic lights, which automatically prioritise buses, operational before Christmas.

Work will get under way at the roundabout, from which motorists can access the A52, on Wednesday, August 25.

Elsewhere, part of Crayford Road, in Alvaston, is to close for three weeks of resurfacing works from tomorrow, Monday, August 23.

City council resurfacing works will also be taking place in Wood Road, Chaddesden, over the course of the next week.

Some other routes are also due to undergo roadworks this week, according to the city council’s website and roadworks collaboration site one.network.

We’ve put together a list of roadworks taking place in the city, which is correct as of the evening of Sunday, August 22.

Pentagon Island, Derby

A major roadworks project, expected to take 20 weeks to complete, will start at Derby’s Pentagon Island this Wednesday, August 25.

The traffic lights at one of the city’s busiest roundabouts, from which motorists can access the A52, will be replaced over the course of the next few months, with the aim to have work finished before Christmas.

The work, which will also see all the pedestrian and cyclist crossing points replaced, will be completed by Derby City Council’s own in-house team with an expected cost of £550k.

During the works, a set of temporary traffic signals will be in place that emulate the current traffic signals in a bid to reduce congestion around the site.

At times, lane closures will be needed but these will only take place during off-peak hours, from 9.30am until 3.30pm and then again overnight from 8pm until 6am. Pedestrian and cyclist access around the site will be maintained at all times.
