Derby route to close for two weeks of major roadworks

Two weeks of major roadworks will close a well-used route through a Derby suburb from tomorrow.

Most of Holborn Drive, Mackworth, will be shut between 8am and 6pm on weekdays until Friday, June 25, to allow Derby City Council resurfacing work to be carried out.

Some other routes are also due to undergo roadworks this week, according to the city council’s website and roadworks collaboration site one.network.

We’ve put together a list of roadworks taking place in the city and wider county, which is correct as of the evening of Sunday, June 13.

Holborn Drive, Mackworth

Two weeks of Derby City Council resurfacing work will get under way in Holborn Drive, Mackworth, tomorrow, Monday, June 14.

A temporary road closure will be in force between the road’s junctions with Roehampton Drive and Hyde Park Road for the duration of the work.

Expected to be completed on Friday, June 25, work is set to take place between 8am and 6pm on weekdays only.

A diversion route will be in place for affected motorists, via Prince Charles Avenue, Sloane Road, Kingsbury Road, Finchley Avenue, Wimbledon Road, Woodford Road, and Roehampton Drive.

Melton Avenue, Littleover

Three days of roadworks will see temporary road closures put in place in Melton Avenue this week.

Taking place between Monday, June 14, and Wednesday, June 16, Derby City Council will be carrying out road surface repairs.

A road closure will be in place between 8am and 3pm each day, with local residents and visitors told to find alternative parking to ensure the work can take place.

Cumberland Avenue, Chaddesden

Severn Trent Water works are set to take place over three days later this week near Cumberland Avenue’s junction with Nottingham Road.

According to the one.network website, a temporary road closure will be in force to allow work to take place between Wednesday, June 16, and Friday, June 18.

Friar Gate and Ashbourne Road, Derby city centre

The last of three weekends of Derby City Council roadworks will see Friar Gate and Ashbourne Road shut to traffic – travelling out of the city towards Markeaton Island and the A38 junction – on Saturday, June 19, and Sunday, June 20.

Road closures will be in force between 7am and 10pm to allow resurfacing work to be carried out, with a full diversion route in place.

They will be the final roadworks carried out as part of the Government-approved scheme aiming to reduce roadside emissions on Derby’s most polluted roads.

Cromford Road, Argyle Street and Elnor Street, Langley Mill

In the wider county, Severn Trent Water began work to upgrade the water network in Langley Mill last month.

The water company is investing £3m to install over 12km of new pipes across the Derbyshire village, to help reduce the number of leaks and bursts in the area.

Three teams of engineers will work at the same time throughout the project, which started on Cromford Road, Argyle Street and Elnor Street in mid-May.

This major network upgrade is expected to take approximately 13 months to complete. Temporary traffic lights and road closures will be in place throughout the project, moving across the village as the work progresses.
