Interior of empty pub closed down for making too little money

A pub in a Derbyshire town, which closed down earlier this year, has now been put up for sale. The New Inn, in Ilkeston, has been put on the market by owners Admiral Taverns after shutting its doors at the end of summer.

The Chester-based firm runs more than 1,600 pubs across the country, but believes the venue at 77 Bath Street does not have a “long-term sustainable future”. It is hoping someone will be interested in taking on the prominent three-storey building, which has been made available for offers in the region of £275,000.

The town centre property features a bar area, seating and a dart board on the ground-floor, a function room on the first-floor, and three-bedroom accommodation above the pub. There is also a small yard to the back of the pub.

Confirming the closure, a spokeswoman from Admiral Taverns said: “We are strong believers in the importance of community pubs and our focus is always on helping our licensees to run sustainable pub businesses. After careful consideration however, we felt in this instance that The New Inn did not have a long-term sustainable future and therefore we’ve taken the decision to close the pub and put the New Inn up for sale.”

The property’s sale is being marketed by Everard Cole and is listed on the RightMove website. A spokesperson for the Nottingham-based estate agent went into more detail about the make-up of the pub, and said: “The New Inn is a brick built three and two storey corner property of painted rendered elevations beneath pitched tiled roofs.

“Internally the accommodation briefly comprises a single U-shaped trading area, with bar servery, wooden flooring, upholstered perimeter seating and darts throw. The pub also benefits from a beer cellar, kitchen and store.

“Over the first floor the New Inn also has a small function room, able to accommodate up to 75 persons, with separate bar servery. The domestic accommodation is situated over the upper floors and briefly comprises three bedrooms, lounge and bathroom.

“Externally there is small enclosed paved terrace to the rear which is used as a smoking shelter as well a small yard with outbuildings used for storage.”
