Midland Fire Boosts Safety for Lavender Lodge Residents in Derby Ahead of 2025 Regulations

In a move that promises to protect vulnerable residents and provide peace of mind for their families, Midland Fire has installed a state-of-the-art Category L1 fire alarm system at Lavender Lodge Nursing Home in Derby. The project, completed in just eight weeks, ensures the safety of 44 residents who rely on the facility for care, many of whom live with dementia and physical disabilities.

Lavender Lodge approached Midland Fire earlier this year to upgrade its fire alarm system. Committed to ensuring minimal disruption to the daily routines of both residents and staff, Midland Fire’s expert team overcame the challenges of working in a live care environment and completed the installation with precision and care. The new fire alarm system features the latest Honeywell Gent Self-Test detectors, offering cutting-edge safety features while reducing long-term maintenance costs.

Chris Eley, Managing Director of Midland Fire, said: “Working in a live care environment can be challenging, but our team’s expertise and adaptability were crucial in ensuring the work was completed safely and efficiently. Knowing that we are playing a part in protecting the residents and providing peace of mind for their families is incredibly rewarding.”

The system installed at Lavender Lodge goes above and beyond basic fire safety. It includes:

  • Gent Vigilon Plus 4 and 6 loop panels
  • Gent S-Quad Self-Test detectors (S4T series)
  • EN54 monitoring unit for fire brigade response
  • Three repeater panels for local monitoring and control

These advanced technologies work together to provide a fully integrated fire safety system, ensuring maximum protection for residents while adhering to the latest fire safety regulations for care homes.

Lavender Lodge Nursing Home provides specialised care for residents with physical disabilities, Alzheimer’s, and dementia. The new fire safety system has been carefully tailored to meet the specific needs of the residents, ensuring they are protected in every possible scenario.

With new fire safety regulations for care homes set to come into effect in March 2025—mandating sprinkler systems and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPs) for residents with disabilities—Midland Fire’s work at Lavender Lodge highlights the importance of proactive safety upgrades in care homes.
