Leading coffee shop chain Starbucks is looking to build a new drive-through shop on a Derbyshire retail estate.
The world famous brand has submitted plans for a new drive-through coffee shop on the Nottingham Road Retail Estate, in Somercotes.
If approved by Amber Valley Borough Council in the next few months, the new coffee shop would sit between McDonald’s and KFC, which are already in place on the site.
The 171 square metre scheme is set to create 25-30 jobs, if approved.

It would complete the regeneration of the former Coats Viyella site, with the base of the textiles and threads firm closed in 2002 and demolished in 2004 after more than 50 years.
The original scheme for Nottingham Road, approved in 2017 had planned to see a Marston’s pub on the plot of land now set to be occupied by Starbucks.
However, documents submitted by Carney Sweeney on behalf of the coffee shop chain say: “The application site is the only remaining undeveloped plot on the former Coats Viyella site.
“Whilst Marstons did submit an application in October 2018…this scheme has not progressed.
“Public houses have been significantly impacted during the Covid-19 pandemic due to a combination of the inability to open and trade along with significant extra costs and reduced ability to generate income when trading has been allowed.
“Whilst the application site remains undeveloped it is not generating any investment or jobs.
“The proposed development on the site for a coffee shop with drive-through will bring forward significant new investment in the site, thereby generating benefits to the local economy.
“The Starbucks would have similar food and drink type characteristics albeit its offer would also include a drive-through.
“The application proposals would represent the completion of the development of the former Coats Viyella site.”
A total of 30 parking spaces on the retail estate would be dedicated to the Starbucks.
Cafe Fortune Ltd is the approved Starbucks franchise for Derbyshire and says it was granted approval from the Starbucks board to open a new unit in Somercotes in March last year.
If approved, the Somercotes Starbucks looks to be the firm’s eighth Derbyshire store.
Ian Gill, property director at Cafe Fortune Ltd, said in a statement submitted with the planning application: “We are already familiar with the location as the adjacent KFC is also operated by a group company.
“The main trade will consist of existing shoppers to the scheme, drive-by commuters and local residential population.
“The Starbucks Shop fit process takes between 4-5 weeks to complete after taking occupation of the completed structure.
“Cafe Fortune intend to have the restaurant operating prior to August which is the date that was conditional on the board approval to have the store open.”
It says the intended hours of the proposed shop would be 6am-11pm Monday to Saturday and 7am-9pm on Sundays.
A Starbucks spokesperson said: “We are always looking for new locations and opportunities to bring the Starbucks Experience to customers in the UK, but at this time we have no updates to share about plans at Somercotes.”
