The Derby areas placed under a police dispersal order

Large parts of Derby and the surrounding area have been placed under a police dispersal order.

Police across the city will be given extra powers to get people to leave an area within the specified zone from 4pm on Saturday, November 7.

It comes after a number of car meetings and large gatherings have taken place over the last few weeks in Chellaston, Wyvern and Littleover.

Derbyshire Constabulary says the measures are needed after reports of antisocial behaviour, breaches of Covid-19 regulations and traffic offences at these meetings.

The order covers the area with the Derby Southern Bypass (A50), Burton Road (A38), M1, Ilkeston Road, Station Road, A6096, Cat and Fiddle Lane, Derby Road, Lime Lane, Brookside Road and the A61.

This means every part of Derby apart from Allestree, Mackworth and Mickleover will be included, as well as areas east of the city such as Shardlow, Dracott, Breaston, Dale Abbey and Hallam Fields.

The order is set to expire at 4pm on Monday, November 7.

The order allows PCSOs and police officers to tell people to leave the area specified within the order if they have reasonable grounds to suspect their behaviour has caused, or is likely to cause, harassment, alarm or distress to members of the public.

People could be arrested if they refuse to do this when ordered to.

Temporary Inspector Matt Haslam, of Derbyshire Constabulary, said: “There have been two car meets in recent weeks which have caused concern local residents about safety and anti-social behaviour.

“We have put this dispersal order in place to provide officers with extra powers to deal with any issues and to hopefully prevent and deter this behaviour from taking place.”
