Tragedy as 20-year-old Derbyshire footballer passes away

Three football clubs have expressed their condolences after the tragic death of their former academy player aged just 20-years-old.

Matthew Langton, who played for Derby County, Mansfield Town, and Long Eaton United football clubs, tragically passed away last week.

The clubs have paid tribute to the young footballer on social media.

A spokesperson from the Rams’ academy said: “Derby County is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Academy player, Matthew Langton.

“All of our thoughts and prayers are with Matthew’s loved ones at this truly difficult time.

“Rest In Peace, Matty.”

Long Eaton United FC have also shared their sorrow following the loss.

They said he was “an outstanding footballer and individual, Matty will always be remembered by everyone at Long Eaton United.

“All our thoughts are with Matty’s parents Maxine & Simon, his sister Amy and all his friends at this incredibly difficult time.”

Mansfield Town, where Matthew played during his time at Brooksby Melton College, said: ” Mansfield Town Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Matthew Langton.

“Matthew was enrolled on our education scheme at Brooksby Melton College.
