Two large fires in one evening for Derbyshire Fire Service

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service have been tasked with tackling two big fires in one evening.

According to their Twitter account, at 8:16pm on Wednesday (October 27), crews from Ripley, Alfreton, Kingsway and a water carrier from Clay Cross were tasked with dealing with a fire on Derby Road in Denby. The service stated that the fire involved approximately 100 hay bales.

At 10pm, crews were in attendance at a fire on Keith Willshee Way in Swadlincote. The fire involved approximately 200 tonnes of wood chippings, with crews from Swadlincote, Burton-on-Trent and Ashby-de-la-zouch working together to control the fire.

Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service tweeted in the early hours of Thursday that crews from Ripley were still in attendance at the fire at Denby.

They tweeted: “Local residents are being asked to keep windows and doors shut due to the amount of smoke this incident is creating.”
